University of Washington tops Peace Corps list for second year

For the second year in a row, the University of Washington has sent more of its graduates into the Peace Corps than any other American university.

The Peace Corps said Washington provided 113 volunteers in 2007. In second place was the University of Wisconsin at Madison, with 99. The Wisconsin school had ranked No. 1 for more than 20 years before being surpassed by Washington last year.

Among medium-sized universities, Western Washington University was the third-largest producer of Peace Corps volunteers in 2007, with 53. Among small schools, Gonzaga University in Spokane ranked second with 32 volunteers, and the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma was fourth with 26.
