Located in the rear passenger seat of a Puyallup man's car was the painted bearded head of a mannequin stuffed in a sweat shirt and wearing a hat and glasses.
Who's that blue-eyed, bearded man sitting in your back seat?
That's what State Patrol troopers wanted to know of a Puyallup man after he was pulled over for a suspected HOV lane violation on Highway 167 Wednesday morning.
Turns out the bearded passenger was made of Styrofoam — an elaborately painted mannequin used so the driver, a 41-year-old man, could zip by in the car-pool lanes.
It's not the first time someone has thought to use a dummy for a passenger.
Last month the driver of a 2005 Scion was cited for using a mannequin head stuffed in a sweat shirt to drive in HOV lanes on northbound I-5 near the Kent-Des Moines Road.
With each stop the dummies seem to be getting more elaborate and attention to detail is improving, according to the State Patrol.
In Wednesday's stop, the trooper noticed something was amiss because the dummy was slumped over in the back seat.
The driver told the trooper that next time he'll belt the dummy into the front seat, according to the State Patrol.
