Rave for tusk handling, rant for car hood stomping
Readers speak up about helping, littering, easing tension with flowers.
RAVE To everyone coming together on our new mammoth tusk discovery, the watchful worker who spotted it, the landowner who donated it, the store workers who stayed open and donated the plaster to preserve it, the museum workers who carefully excavated it, the children who greeted it and the community who are embracing it. A lesson is unfolding in teamwork, science and fun. Let’s find a name for her that does her proud.
RAVE To the people walking around Green Lake who performed CPR and did whatever else they could to help our son, who’d collapsed and later died. We appreciate those strangers who stepped up, as well as the EMTs, for trying to save his life. We are grateful his sweet girlfriend was not completely alone at that moment. Thanks, Seattle.
RANT To the guy who jumped on top of the hood of my car and stomped across it when I inadvertently got stuck in a crosswalk in downtown Seattle.
RAVE To the guy who cut me off driving right in front of me into my lane. I honked, he flipped me off twice. I pulled up next to him, my window down, to remind him kindly that HE cut ME off. He said, “Sorry, sorry. Here, these are for you,” and tossed a lovely bouquet of silk roses to me. It made my Valentine’s Day.
RANT To the man who picked up my car keys at a cafe and now is holding them ransom. May your karma catch up with you.
RAVE To the alert driver who stopped when I pulled out in front of you on my bicycle without looking. Because YOU were paying attention I wasn’t killed or seriously hurt. Thank you!
RANT To people that litter our streets and highways. I do litter cleanup on our road and it’s disgusting. Who does this? Shame on you.
RAVE To the lady ahead of me in line at Trader Joe’s who paid for my groceries when I realized I’d forgotten my wallet. I wanted to put back the flowers I’d treated myself to for Valentine’s Day and the clerk insisted I keep them as a gift from the store. I’m so grateful and humbled by these two people who turned a very frustrating situation into such a generous one. I made a donation to NW Harvest to pay it forward.
RAVE AND RANT Rave to Canadian Broadcasting Corp. for providing a different lens to view the Winter Olympics. We love our Canadian neighbors and their athletes. Rant for perpetuating the absurd rumor that the U.S. had somehow rigged the winning of the ice dancing gold medal. Very disappointing!
