Take the family ice skating
Highland Ice Arena in Shoreline offers a family session Sundays for a discounted price.
Seattle Times staff reporter
Family-owned Highland Ice Arena celebrates its 50th anniversary next month. “We opened Dec. 14, 1962, and we are the longest operating ice arena in Washington,” says Diana Stephens, office manager and daughter-in-law of Jim and Dorothy Stephens.
And each Sunday from 1:30 to 5 p.m., the arena offers what it calls a family session that allows clans to skate for $15, plus $3 apiece skate rental. There is no need to register ahead of time. Just make sure you ask for the family rate when paying.
The arena also plans to hold a 50th Anniversary Ice Show at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 14 and at 12:15 p.m. Dec. 15.
The arena, at 18005 Aurora Ave N. in Shoreline, also offers all-day sessions throughout the year, usually on or around holidays. For details, go to www.highlandice.com.
There are several other arenas around the region, too. You can find one near you at www.arenamaps.com
