The renowned Heronswood Gardens in Kingston will be open to the public on Saturday.

Heronswood, established as a garden and nursery by Dan Hinkley and Robert Jones in 1987, is home to rare and unusual plants, ponds, rock and shade gardens and arbor plantings. Fans of the garden were dismayed when W. Atlee Burpee & Co. bought Heronswood in 2000 and a few years later, shut the nursery and moved all operations to Pennsylvania.

After years of trying to sell the property, Burpee put it up for auction this past spring; the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe was the successful bidder.

The tour is from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at 7530 NE 288th St., Kingston; cost is $5. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Chase Garden, near Graham, Pierce County.
