Q. After getting a hair-and-makeup trial, I think I'd be happier doing the makeup myself. The problem is, I still want the salon to do my hair. Is it rude to not schedule wedding-day makeup, too?

A. You want to look gorgeous on your wedding day, and part of achieving that is to work with beauty professionals you trust. If you're not happy with your makeup trial, don't commit to a wedding-day makeup application. And don't let the salon (or anyone) pressure you into thinking you need one.

If you're the type of person who'd feel uncomfortable going back to the salon just for an updo, it may be worth exploring other options. If you really want the salon to do your hair, maybe also schedule a manicure instead of a makeup application.

Whatever you choose, remember that the last thing you need on your wedding day is an awkward situation interrupting some much-needed pampering and girl time.
