Oregon State redshirt freshman Sean Mannion showed why the Beavers made the surprising decision early in the year to give him the starting job. The strong-armed Mannion completed 26 of 37 passes for 339 yards and two touchdowns and saved his best for last, going 6 for 9 for 146 yards in the fourth quarter.

Play of the game

Oregon State was still in danger when it had a second-and-10 at its own 1-yard-line with just over seven minutes left. But Mannion calmly dropped into the end zone and got good protection to let Markus Wheaton get open on a double move, then threw a strike that Wheaton caught for a 52-yard gain. That keyed a 99-yard drive that sewed up the game.

Turning point

Oregon State was clinging to a 17-14 lead when it scored 14 points in a span of 26 seconds in the fourth quarter, getting the second score after a fumble by Nick Montana gave the Beavers the ball at the UW 15.

Injury report

Starting left guard Colin Tanigawa suffered what could be an ACL injury in the second quarter. Safety Justin Glenn suffered a concussion on the opening kickoff. Safety Will Shamburger was sidelined with a stinger.
