Player of the game

Washington running back Chris Polk was questionable to play following arthroscopic knee surgery Aug. 18. But he returned to play his usual workmanlike game, rushing for 125 yards on 23 carries and giving Washington a ground game that Eastern never could contain.

Play of the game

Desmond Trufant had a tight competition all day long with 6-foot-5 Eastern receiver Brandon Kaufman. But when it mattered most he came up with the key play, staying in front of Kaufman to pick off a pass in the end zone with 29 seconds left to preserve the win.

Turning point

It wasn't over until Trufant's interception, a surprising development considering the Huskies were 18-point favorites.

Key stat

• Eastern had four turnovers to zero for UW.

• The Eagles converted 10 of 16 on third downs and 2 of 4 on fourth downs. The Eagles only punted once in the game.

Injury report

WR Jermaine Kearse (sprained ankle) says he'll be able to play next week; QB Keith Price (sprained knee) continued to play and said he'll be able to play next week.

Key quote

"We knew what to expect. We knew they were a good team. We weren't trying to downplay them or anything. We just have to play better. We know we are a better football team than that," — UW quarterback Keith Price.

By the numbers

504 Net yards allowed by the UW defense. Just 31 of those yards came on the ground.

473 Bo Levi Mitchell's passing yards, the fourth-most ever thrown against the Huskies (the record is 510 by Willie Tuitama of Arizona in 2007).

140 Yards receiving for EWU's Brandon Kaufman.

12 Polk's 100-yard rushing games, third-most in UW history.

10 Number of UW receivers who caught a pass. James Johnson lead the team with four catches for 29 yards.

10 Washington's longest pass completion as the Huskies averaged just 4.1 per pass attempt..

1 Hau'oli Jamora had the Huskies' only sack of the game.
