The setup: Simply enough, a bowl game is on the line for each team. For Cal, it's win and in as the Bears would get to 6-6 and qualify for one of the Pac-10's six bowl slots. Washington has to win its last two, at Cal and next week at Washington State.

What to expect: For UW, a more diverse offensive game plan than last week when it went with a run-dominated attack to beat a UCLA team with a feeble offense 24-7. UW will have to throw more, and better, to outscore the Bears, who have been tough at home all season. Cal has had to go with backup quarterback Brock Mansion to replace injured starter Kevin Riley and will try to dominate on the ground with standout running back Shane Vereen, who has 1,061 yards.

Notes: This is the last game Cal will play at the current configuration of Memorial Stadium before it is renovated. UW leads the series 47-38-4, including a 42-10 victory last season in Seattle. However, Cal has won six of eight since Jeff Tedford took over as coach of the Bears in 2002, including all three in Berkeley. UW won 19 in a row from 1977-2001 before Tedford's first Cal team ended the streak with a victory at Husky Stadium. Cal has lost its past two games, each at home, to the top two teams in the league in Oregon (15-13) and Stanford (48-14). Despite losing its last two home games, Cal is 37-8 in its past 45 games at Memorial. Cal has two Seattle-area products on its team, each listed on the depth chart at the same defensive-end position — Trevor Guyton of Redmond (the starter) and Deandre Coleman of Garfield (the backup). Guyton, a junior, has 25 tackles and 8.5 for a loss while Coleman has 16 and three.

Injuries: Washington — RB Deontae Cooper (knee), P Will Mahan (knee), DE Talia Crichton (knee), DL Cameron Elisara (shoulder) out for the season; RB Johri Fogerson (hip) out this week; S Sean Parker (stinger), G Ryan Tolar (knee) questionable. California — WR Jeremy Ross (finger) questionable, TE Anthony Miller, CBs Marc Anthony and Darian Hagan (all unspecified) probable.

Upset possibility: The Huskies will almost certainly have to show more offense than a week ago when they were held to 10 points through the first 53 minutes by UCLA before two interceptions led to two quick TDs.

Key matchup: UW front seven against Cal RB Shane Veeren. The whole key to this game might be whether the Huskies can contain Vereen enough to force Bears quarterback Brock Mansion to win the game. Mansion is completing just 48 percent of his passes since taking over as the starter.

Prediction: California 27, Washington 21.
