Washington will play Pacific on Sunday, Nov. 23, in the inaugural Marv Harshman Classic at KeyArena.

The game will be the second in a doubleheader that also features Seattle U against Montana.

Harshman, a Northwest icon who passed away last year at age 95, posted a 246-146 mark coaching the Huskies from 1971 to 1985, second on UW’s all-time win list. Before that, he coached at his alma mater, Pacific Lutheran (1945-58), and Washington State (1958-71).

In other nonconference scheduling news, Washington will play San Jose State in the first round of the Wooden Legacy at 8 p.m. Nov. 27 on ESPN2. The game will be played at Cal State Fullerton’s Titan Gym.

The winner advances to face the Long Beach State-Western Michigan winner in the semifinals. The eight-team tournament also includes UTEP vs. Princeton and Xavier vs. San Diego on the other side of the bracket.

Notes

• Gig Harbor High School’s Mark Wieczorek has been named national boys cross-country coach of the year by the National High School Coaches Association.

• Former Washington State rower Lisa Roman has been named to Canada’s senior women’s eight that will compete in the World Championships in Amsterdam Aug. 24-31.

David Lenox has been named chief executive officer for Special Olympics Washington. Lenox replaces former CEO Beth Wojick, who announced her retirement in April.
