Nationally ranked for the first time since returning to Division I competition, the Seattle University men’s soccer team will put that ranking to a tough test against crosstown rival and No. 4 Washington on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at Husky Soccer Field.

The Redhawks (2-0) are ranked No. 22, the first time any Seattle U program has been ranked nationally since moving from Division II to Division I full-time.

Thursday’s contest is a rematch from last November’s NCAA tournament second-round match, won by the Huskies 4-2.

The Huskies, who won the Pac-12 title and reached the Elite Eight last season, opened the season with a 4-0 victory over Gonzaga. They moved from No. 6 to No. 4 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America rankings.

Cristian Roldan, a sophomore midfielder for the Huskies, will face his brother Alex, a freshman midfielder for the Redhawks.

Notes

• The UW men are ranked 13th and the women 14th in the Saucony Flo50 cross-country rankings.

• The Seattle Pacific women’s cross-country team has been tabbed as the co-favorites to win the Great Northwest Athletic Conference championship.

In polling by the 10 conference coaches, the Falcons received three of the 10 first-place votes and 69 points. Simon Fraser had one first-place vote and 69 points. Western Washington had 68 points.
