Two Husky baseball players honored with awards

Trevor Mitsui and Tyler Davis are honored by the American Baseball Coaches Association.

The University of Washington’s Trevor Mitsui was selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings 2014 West Regional first team as a designated hitter, while Tyler Davis was chosen as a second-team pitcher.

Mitsui, from Lynnwood, hit .328 with five home runs and 32 RBI this season. He led the Huskies with 18 multi-hit games. Mitsui began his professional career this week after being selected in the 30th round by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Davis was 11-2 with a 1.60 ERA this season. The junior from Mountain View, Calif., was the fourth-ever UW player with 11 wins and had the fifth-lowest ERA for one season in UW history. He was an All-Pac-12 selection, Golden Spikes semifinalist, Gregg Olson Breakout Player of the Year finalist and on the Dick Howser Award watch list.

• Washington State women’s basketball coach June Daugherty announced the promotion of Brian Holsinger to associate head coach. Holsinger has been the recruiting and defensive coordinator during Daugherty’s seven seasons at Washington State.
