Huskies Derrick Daigre, Liberty Miller reach finals in NCAA track

Daigre advanced in the men’s 800 meters and Miller moved on in the women’s 3,000 steeplechase.

Washington’s Derrick Daigre and Liberty Miller both advanced to the finals in the NCAA track and field championships Wednesday at Hayward Field in Eugene.

Daigre finished second in his heat of the 800 meters in 1 minute, 48.77 seconds to reach Friday’s finals.

In the women’s 3,000 steeplechase, Miller ran a 10:05.40, finishing fifth in her semifinal heat to automatically advance into Friday’s final.

Washington State’s Jesse Jorgensen finished 17th in the men’s 800 semifinals in 1:50.01.

Oregon freshman Edward Cheserek won the men’s 10,000 meters in a personal-best 28:30.18.

Also, Oregon’s Jenna Prandini won the long jump with a leap of 21-6.

• Washington junior right-hander Tyler Davis was selected to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-America third team.

Rachel Jackson and Leslie Folsom advanced to the finals of the Championship Flight of the Seattle Women’s Golf Association City Championship at Inglewood Golf Club in Kenmore.

• Washington sophomore Melanie Wade and Washington State’s Emmy Allen, a product of Jackson High in Mill Creek, are members of a Pac-12 Conference all-star volleyball team that will be touring China this month.
