UNIVERSITY PLACE — Chambers Bay might be the site of the 2015 U.S. Open, but Monday it was the playground of University of San Diego golfer Grant Forrest.

Forrest set the competitive course record with a 7-under 63 on the 7,047-yard layout, and then followed that up with a 65 for a seven-stroke lead in the Redhawk Invitational.

Washington is third in the team race, trailing UCLA and San Diego. Host Seattle University is tied for 14th in the 18-team field.

OTHER GOLF

• Seattle U was in 13th place and Eastern Washington was 17th at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic in Maricopa, Ariz.

• Western Washington’s Craig Crawford is tied for second individually after a 6-under 66 in the second round of the Western New Mexico Invitational. The Vikings are third as a team.

June Daugherty, the women’s basketball coach at Washington State, had her contract extended through the 2018-19 season.

• Seattle U’s Kacie Sowell has been named an honorable mention all-America by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.

• Western Washington javelin thrower Bethany Drake has been named NCAA Division II national female athlete of the week after her toss of 169 feet, six inches was the fourth-best throw in Division II history. WWU softball outfielder Meghan Carrillo (6-for-16, six RBI) was named the Great Northwest co-player of the week.
