Washington’s Dempsey Indoor facility will host the Mountain Pacific Sports Federations track and field championships Friday and Saturday, featuring 17 women’s teams and 12 men’s teams.

In addition to the team competition, the meet is the last opportunity for athletes to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships, which will be March 14-15 in Albuquerque, N.M.

Nine Pac-12 schools, plus BYU, Cal State-Northridge and Long Beach State, will send their men’s and women’s teams. Utah and USC will send only their women’s teams, and will be joined by Cal State-Fullerton, Hawaii and UC Irvine in the women’s meet. Oregon State does not have a men’s track and field program and will not compete in the women’s meet.

The Oregon women are ranked No. 1 and are four-time defending NCAA indoor champions. Stanford (No. 9) and UCLA (No. 19) are also ranked. On the men’s side, Oregon is ranked No. 5, Arizona No. 9 and Stanford No. 23.

The competition begins at noon Friday. On Saturday, the meet starts at 10 a.m.

The Huskies have four athletes who are currently ranked in the top 16 in their events, which would qualify them for the NCAA Indoor Championships. Those four are Jax Thoirs (No. 7 in the pole vault), Izaic Yorks (13th in the mile), A.J. Maricich (tied for 15th in the high jump) and Diamara Planell Cruz (14th in the women’s pole vault). Planell Cruz will not compete this weekend because of a wrist injury.

Several other Huskies will compete this weekend, hoping to qualify for the Indoor Championships.
