Paul Fortier is in his seventh season as an assistant basketball coach at the University of Washington.
He has been instrumental in the development of Husky forwards and centers over his tenure. Past pupils include Spencer Hawes, Jon Brockman, Quincy Pondexter and Matthew Bryan-Amaning.
Fortier has helped head coach Lorenzo Romar guide the Huskies to four NCAA appearances in his six seasons, including Sweet 16 showings in 2006 and 2010.
He lettered four years at Washington, from 1983-86 and started his final three seasons, helping the Huskies earn NCAA Tournament berths each time. He also served as team captain his final year during which he averaged 14.8 points and 7.2 rebounds. He still ranks 14th among all-time Huskies with 1,326 career points.
Fortier talked about his playing days at UW, this season's Husky squad and much more in a live chat Feb. 17 on seattletimes.com.
