A look at Day 3 of Huskies football camp

Position spotlight: Offensive line

Hoping to solidify a position that has been a weakness for the Huskies for years, UW signed seven offensive linemen last February. Through three practices, Sarkisian said two have stood out — left tackle Erik Kohler (a teammate of Nick Montana's at Oaks Christian High in Westlake Village, Calif.) and Colin Porter of Bothell, who is playing both guard and tackle.

"I think from a knowledge standpoint, Kohler's done some nice things at left tackle. Porter is doing some really nice things playing center and guard now, which is not always easy to do, bouncing back and forth," Sarkisian said. "All in all, I think the group is coming along fine. But if I had to point out two guys right now, it would be Porter and Kohler."

Top recruits in the house

The two players who may be the top two recruits in the state for the Class of 2011 — receiver Kasen Williams of Skyline and tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins of Gig Harbor — each visited practice Wednesday. Williams attended along with his parents (his father, Aaron, was a receiver at UW from 1979-82) and spent a long time afterward talking with UW coaches. For Seferian-Jenkins, it was his second visit in a week as he also attended Monday's workout.

Some recruiting analysts think both are leaning toward UW. Each will make their decisions known soon. Seferian-Jenkins has set a press conference for next Monday in Gig Harbor to announce a decision between UW and Texas (he took a visit to Texas last weekend). Williams is expected to make an announcement later this month, as well. He's considering Cal, Florida, LSU and Notre Dame.

Day 3 highlights

A hundred or so fans attended UW's workout at Husky Stadium. The team finally got to do at least a little hitting, wearing shoulder pads for the first time to go along with helmets. UW coach Steve Sarkisian thought some of the younger players showed some of the wear and tear of their first week of college football. "There were probably more mental mistakes in this practice than there has been. But that's somewhat normal," he said.

What's next

UW will take the field at 3 p.m. Thursday at Husky Stadium in helmets and shoulder pads. The practice is open to the public.
