Huskies Football Camp | Day 17 highlights

WHAT HAPPENED: The Huskies held one practice in full pads in the Dempsey Indoor — their first indoor practice of the year ...

Getting to know ...

Paul Homer, Fullback

Year: Junior. Hometown: Omaha, Neb. (Millard North)

Major: Pre-med. "I want to be a doctor, a pediatrician. "I always just liked stuff like that and my mom works in a hospital [as a lab technician], and I've always liked working with kids."

One thing that led you out here is that your cousin is former UW women's basketball player Gena Pelz, who is married to former UW lineman Aaron Dalan. Do you see them often? "They come and see me every once in a while and I go out and see them. Have dinner every once in a while. They live in Centralia now."

What's your favorite non-football activity? "Bowling."

What's your best score? "201. I used to go a lot, but I haven't gone as much lately. I may go tonight, though."

Bob Condotta

WHAT HAPPENED: The Huskies held one practice in full pads in the Dempsey Indoor — their first indoor practice of the year — before canceling a planned second practice in the afternoon.

TAKING A BREAK: The practice UW called off was a light workout designed largely as a "mock game" for the coaches to get reacquainted with their game-day responsibilities.

"We haven't had a bad day out there," said offensive coordinator Tim Lappano. "We've gone extremely hard. You can tell, doing this as long as most of us have done it, when it's time to let up a little bit when your fast guys are not looking as fast."

LOCKER AHEAD OF SCHEDULE? Lappano also said that QB Jake Locker has appeared to pick up where he left off before missing 10 days with a left hamstring injury. Coaches had praised his improved accuracy before he was hurt.

INJURY REPORT: The only players listed as out for the opener are walk-on linebacker T.J. Poe and true freshman defensive back Anthony Gobern. TE Michael Gottlieb, who had missed eight days with a hamstring injury, returned to practice Wednesday. S Nate Williams has been slowed of late with a bruised knee, but it isn't thought to be serious. C Juan Garcia suffered what Lappano said was "a scare" with his recovering foot in practice on Tuesday but that "he's fine." Garcia missed Wednesday's practice after a death in the family but is expected back today.

WHAT'S NEXT: UW is scheduled for one practice in the afternoon.
