What happened: The Huskies held two practices, going in full pads in the morning and in helmets, shoulder pads and shorts in the afternoon.

Freshmen in the running: After a long scrimmage on Saturday, coach Tyrone Willingham was impressed with the team's depth at running back, even with Brandon Johnson, the team's top returning rusher, sidelined. "They showed pretty deep that they can run the football," Willingham said. "Had a lot of broken tackles, and that's what you look for: how can you gain the extra yards?"

In addition to Johnson, redshirt freshmen Willie Griffin and Brandon Yakaboski join freshmen Chris Polk, Johri Fogerson and David Freeman as the team's running backs looking to replace Louis Rankin. Without singling them out, Willingham said two freshmen could make the team's regular rotation for the season. Polk will likely be one of them. Yakaboski, like Johnson, missed Saturday's scrimmage but returned to practice Monday.

Injury report: The Huskies welcomed back several players other than QB Jake Locker, most of whom Willingham had deemed "day-to-day" before the weekend. Players returning included offensive linemen Casey Bulyca and Matt Sedillo, RB Brandon Johnson, and S Victor Aiyewa. C Juan Garcia was only present for the morning session, and WR Charles Hawkins only for the afternoon session. Freshman DT Alameda Ta'amu, WR Devin Aguilar, TE Michael Gottlieb, and CB Byron Davenport were not present for either session. The coaches have a close eye on safety Jason Wells, who is still recovering from a torn anterior-cruciate ligament suffered last season against USC. Linebacker T.J. Poe and cornerback Anthony Gobern are the only players in camp ruled out for the season opener against Oregon.
