The state ferry Tacoma, adrift off Bainbridge Island after losing power on its midday run, is assisted by the tug Pacific Knight. It and another tug brought the ferry to Winslow to offload cars and 405 passengers this afternoon. Ferry officials are urging travelers on the Bainbridge Island-Seattle run to change their plans because of expected crowding.
The biotechnology giant, based in Thousand Oaks, Calif., said planned job cuts companywide will amount to more than 2,400 people. It employs about 710 locally.
