Pittsburgh evens series with New York Rangers | NHL

The Pittsburgh Penguins blanked the New York Rangers 3-0 to square their best-of-seven East semifinal series at 1-1.

The Associated Press

PITTSBURGH – With their captain under fire and their postseason on the brink of collapse, the Pittsburgh Penguins responded with a show of force. Of course, having the New York Rangers look like a team content to get back home with a split helped.

Kris Letang snapped a scoreless tie in the second period, and Marc-Andre Fleury made 22 saves for his franchise-record seventh playoff shutout to lift the Penguins to a 3-0 victory Sunday night, tying the best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinal series at a game apiece.

Game 3 is Monday in New York.

Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, who led the league with 104 regular-season points, failed to score a goal for the 13th straight playoff game.

Bryan Bickell had a goal and two assists to help defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago beat Minnesota.

Brandon Saad scored his first two goals of this postseason as the Blackhawks took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven West semifinal series.

Chicago’s Corey Crawford made 18 saves.

“We weren’t that far off,” Wild coach Mike Yeo said. “Even though, again, I know we can play better.”
