Victoria earns 1-0 victory over Everett in shootout

Jack Walker’s goal proved the difference in a 1-0 shootout victory for the Victoria Royals over the visiting Everett Silvertips In Western Hockey League play on Wednesday at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.

Austin Lotz made 29 saves through regulation and overtime to earn his league-leading fifth shutout of the season for the Silvertips (23-1-4-1).

Patrik Polivka made 24 saves for the Royals, also his fifth shutout of the season.

Victoria was 0 for 5 on the power play, the Tips 0 for 2.

The first round of the shootout saw Victoria’s Ben Walker and Everett’s Ivan Nikolishin fail to score. In the second round, Jack Walker made a quick move to his backhand and placed a shot in the top corner past Lotz to give the Royals the edge.

Polivka followed with a big left-pad save on Jujhar Khaira. Steven Hodges was unable to end the game for Victoria, but another save from Polivka on Carson Stadnyk sealed the victory for the Royals.
