T-birds bury Spokane, 5-1
Adam Henry had a goal and two assists and Justin Myles made 28 saves as the Seattle Thunderbirds cruised to a 5-1 victory over the Spokane Chiefs in a Western Hockey League game Sunday night.
Seattle (16-9-1-3) converted 3 of 5 power-play opportunities to win its fourth consecutive game.
Mathew Barzal, Alex Delnov and Branden Troock each had a goal and an assist for the T-birds, who opened a 5-0 lead. Roberts Lipsbergs opened the scoring with his team-leading 18th goal of the season.
Already up 3-0, Barzal and Henry scored 18 seconds apart in the third period for a 5-0 lead.
Spokane’s Riley Whittingham ended Myles’ shutout just 28 seconds later.
Garret Hughson saved 41 of 46 shots for the Chiefs.
• Senior Jeff Budinich of Kentlake High scored a season-high 18 points, leading six Central Washington men’s basketball players in double figures in an 82-60 victory over visiting Walla Walla.
The Wildcats improved to 3-2. Walla Walla counted the game as an exhibition.
Budinich, a transfer from Montana State, made 7 of 10 field goals while adding six rebounds and two blocked shots in 18 minutes off the bench.
All five CWU starters finished with 10 points apiece.
