T-birds lose for first time
PORTLAND — Oliver Bjorkstrand scored four goals and Nicolas Petan and Adam De Chaplain each had two as the Portland Winterhawks overwhelmed the Seattle Thunderbirds 10-4 in a Western Hockey League game.
Seattle entered the game 3-0, including a season-opening win over Portland.
But this game was one-sided from the start, with Portland building a 9-0 lead before Seattle scored.
Thunderbirds goaltender Danny Mumaugh was pulled after allowing six goals on 25 shots, but his backup, Justin Myles, did even worse.
Myles allowed four goals on 13 shots.
The Thunderbirds scored all of their goals in the final 10 minutes.
Shea Theodore scored twice for Seattle.
Each team had 38 shots.
