KELOWNA, B.C. — The Kelowna Rockets staved off elimination with a 4-3 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds in their first round Western Hockey League playoff series Saturday night at Prospera Place.

The T-birds lead the best-of-seven series 3-2 and can clinch at home at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday.

Kelowna led 4-1 before Seattle used a furious rally to score two goals in the final minute of play just 11 seconds apart. Seth Swenson scored with 37 seconds remaining and Roberts Lipsbergs scored with 26 seconds left. Alex Delnov scored Seattle's first goal.

The Rockets, who won their first game in the series with a 4-0 shutout Wednesday, have killed off all 22 Seattle power plays in the series.

Everett avoids elimination

PORTLAND — Austin Lotz made 43 saves and the Everett Silvertips earned a 3-2 victory over Portland to stay alive in their best-of-seven opening-round series.

Portland leads the series 3-2 and can clinch in Everett on Monday starting at 7:05 p.m.

The Winterhawks smashed the Silvertips 11-4 on Friday night, but the Silvertips scored the first three goals Saturday before 7,093 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Everett jumped ahead on goals from Joshua Winquist, Logan Aasman and Reid Petryk before Portland scored two power-play goals in the third period.
