KELOWNA, B.C. — Alexander Delnov scored at 2:41 of overtime as the Seattle Thunderbirds earned a 2-1 victory over the Kelowna Rockets and took a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven first round Western Hockey League playoff series Saturday night.

Seth Swenson took a shot that Kelowna goalie Jordon Cooke stopped but the rebound came to Jesse Forsberg in the left circle. Forsberg made a cross slot pass to Delnov at the right post. Cooke went down thinking it was a shot and Delnov redirected the pass past the goalie for the winning goal.

The victory was the second straight in overtime for the seventh-seeded Thunderbirds.

Kelowna's Cole Linaker scored at 13:28 of the second period before Seattle's Jared Hauf tied the score 10:08 into the third period.

In Game 1 Friday night Luke Lockhart scored the overtime game-winning goal to give the T-Birds a 5-4 win. Since 1996 this was the eighth time the T-birds and Rockets had played an overtime playoff game. The T-birds have won six of the eight overtime playoff games between the teams.

The T-birds will try to wrap up the series in Games 3 and 4 in Kent on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Portland evens series with Everett

PORTLAND — The Everett Silvertips were held to a season-low 11 shots on goal as the Portland Winterhawks played a sound puck-possession game on their way to a 4-1 victory over Everett in Game 2 of their first-round WHL playoff series.

After gaining a split of the first two games in Portland, the Silvertips will return home with the series tied 1-1 going into Games 3 and 4 on Wednesday and Friday at Comcast Arena.
