Portland pops Thunderbirds in WHL action
Seattle goes just 1-for-7 on the power play
PORTLAND — Converting on just one of seven power-play attempts hurt the Seattle Thunderbirds, who dropped a 5-2 Western Hockey League decision Friday night to Portland.
The Thunderbirds (12-13-1-0) also were hurt by 40 penalty minutes.
Portland (21-4-1-0) broke a 1-1 tie with goals by Oliver Bjorkstrand, Seth Jones and Taylor Leirer. Justin Hickman and Roberts Lipsbergs scored for Seattle.
At Everett 4, Vancouver 0
Daniel Cotton recorded his first career shutout, and Joshua Winquist scored twice as the Silvertips (11-17-0-2) were easy winners over Vancouver (7-19-0-0). Carson Stanyk and Reid Petryk also scored for Everett.
