VANCOUVER, B.C. — Max Lapierre had a goal and two assists, Henrik Sedin added three assists and the Vancouver Canucks beat Dallas 5-2 Friday night, dropping the Stars from the third seed in the Western Conference to the seventh spot.

The Canucks (48-21-9) won their fifth straight game to move a point behind the St. Louis Blues for the Western Conference lead.

Chris Higgins, Sami Salo, Andrew Alberts and Alex Burrows also scored for the Canucks. Higgins has four goals in four games.

Lapierre filled in on the top forward line for Daniel Sedin, who missed his fifth consecutive game because of a concussion.

Cory Schneider made 28 saves for his 12th victory in his past 14 starts. He was a surprise starter after Roberto Luongo left warmups early because of a sore neck.

"When he (Luongo) felt it was going to be a detriment to the team ... then he made a tough call because you know he never wants to get out of that net," Schneider told The Vancouver Sun.
