Prep stars of the week
Issaquah’s Saif Kerawala, Lake Stevens’ Amie Browder and the Shorewood girls tennis team are high school athletes of the week
Saif Kerawala, Issaquah boys soccer
Kerawala knows how to stop penalty kicks. And how to make them, too. The junior goalkeeper had both skills on display in leading the Eagles to their first KingCo 4A championship with a 2-1 shootout victory over Skyline. He not only saved two PKs, but knocked one in, too. “Saif’s big-time,” coach Kyle Tatro said after the match. “We knew he could perform in these kinds of situations.”
Amie Browder, Lake Stevens softball
Browder has had some big hits for the Vikings this season, but none more meaningful than the three-run, walkoff home run she blasted to give them an 8-7 victory over previously unbeaten Snohomish. “Amie is a huge asset on our team both on offense and defense,” coach Sarah Hirsch said of the junior third baseman. “At the plate, she is a huge threat ... (and) is a wall at third base.”
Shorewood girl tennis team
Coach Arnie Moreno’s squad clinched the WesCo 3A South championship with a tough 4-3 victory over Mountlake Terrace, sweeping all three doubles matches. The Thunderbirds then blanked Meadowdale, 7-0, to improve to 12-0 in league play, 14-1 overall.
