Seattle Times prep athletes of the week
Isaac Westlund, Archbishop Murphy track and field
Wet, cold weather at the Birger Solberg Invitational in Bellingham didn’t slow Westlund down. The junior sprinter won the 200 meters in a personal-best 22.65 and also topped the 400 field in 50.43, just off his top effort from last season and the No. 2 2A time in the state. “Isaac is running really well so far this year and is on track to compete for the state title in one, maybe two events,” coach Paul Turner said.
Quinn Breidenbach, Enumclaw softball
The sophomore flame-thrower is getting it done in the pitching circle and at the plateand helped the Hornets sweep four games last week. Breidenbach threw in three of the wins while striking out 39 batters in 19 innings without allowing an earned run. She batted 8 for 15 (.533) on the week with four doubles and five RBI. “Quinn was solid all week,” coach Mike Eckhart said.
Nathan Hale boys track and field team
Coach Cary Stidham’s squad piled up 129 points to win the big Arnie Young Invitational Saturday, well ahead of second-place Kentwood (85). The Raiders won seven individual events as well as the 1,600-meter relay.
