Keenan Curran Federal Way track and field

Curran, a senior, took the state lead in the triple jump with his winning leap of 46 feet, 4½ inches at the Kent Invitational on Saturday. He added another first in the long jump with a season-best 21-7 and was part of the victorious 400 relay as the Eagles earned the team title. “Keenan is more than just a great athlete,” coach Chris Williams said. “He’s just an overall great kid.”

Sophie Frost, Jackson softball

The sophomore pitcher not only struck out 21 batters in 12 innings, she helped herself at the plate by going 6 for 7 with six runs batted in as the Timberwolves picked up a pair of victories. Frost had a five-inning no-hitter against Shorecrest. “Sophie has been fantastic in the circle, but she has been awesome with her bat as well,” coach Kyle Peacocke said.

Ballard boys soccer team

Under second-year head coach Brian Wardlaw, the Beavers are making remarkable strides. Their 1-0 victory last week over Inglemoor, then ranked No. 3 in Class 4A, improved them to 4-0 on the season — more wins than the team had in all of last season when Ballard finished 3-11-2.
