Prep stars of the week
Peter Perkins, Overlake/Bear Creek baseball
Perkins, a junior right fielder from Bear Creek (which combines with Overlake for baseball), went 5 for 7 with a double, two home runs and six RBI to lead the team to a pair of victories. “Peter has outstanding natural talent,” coach Mike Davidson said, “and he has put in all of the work during the offseason to allow him to be totally locked in at the plate from day one of the season ... The drive is what makes him a special player.” Perkins has committed to Washington.
KC Moulden, Enumclaw girls track and field
Just three weeks after winning a state wrestling title, Moulden showed how quickly she can switch gears with a pair of impressive throws — 42-1½ in the shot put and 110-9 in the discus. The shot mark is just off the 42-5½ that gave her second place at last year’s 3A state meet as a sophomore. “KC is right where she left off at sate last year,” coach Jenelle Murrell said. “I am very proud of her and looking forward to great things to come.”
Bothell boys soccer team
Coach Kenny Mueller’s Cougars opened the season with a pair of shutouts, 3-0 over Mead and 1-0 over Cascade — both credited to keeper Hunter McCole. Sergey Ptachik keyed the offense with two goals and an assist.
