A look at the eight teams participating in this week’s 4A boys basketball state tournament.

Boys favorites

Garfield Bulldogs

Location: Seattle

Record: 24-1

Coach: Ed Haskins

Key players: Tramaine Isabell, 6-1, Sr., 24 ppg; Brayon Blake, 6-7, Sr.,16 ppg; Deeshawn Tucker, 6-0, Sr.,10 ppg.

Inside look: Garfield has a balanced lineup and a go-to scorer in Isabell. The Bulldogs can beat anyone when their aggressive defense is at its best.

Jackson Timberwolves

Location: Mill Creek

Record: 23-1

Coach: Steve Johnson

Key players: Jason Todd, 6-5, Sr.,17 ppg; Dan Kingma, 5-10, Sr., 18 ppg; Brian Zehr, 6-4, Sr.,11 ppg.

Inside look: Jackson has a senior-laden team that got to the championship game last year. The Timberwolves have stars, but play well within their system.

Richland Bombers

Location: Richland

Record: 24-0

Coach: Earl Streufert

Key players: Payton Radliff, 6-0, Sr., 20 ppg; Nathan Streufert, 6-7, Sr.,19 ppg; Jacob DeVries, 6-0, Sr.,18 ppg.

Inside look: Richland is a difficult matchup because a handful of players can go off on any given night. The Bombers have had their way this season, rarely getting tested.

Contenders

Kentridge Chargers

Location: Kent

Record: 25-1

Coach: Dave Jamison

Key players: Jawan Stepney, 6-3, Sr., 20 ppg; Keasean Kelley, 5-10, Sr., 11 ppg; Joe Wainhouse, 6-7, Sr., 5.3 ppg.

Inside look: Stepney is an electrifying guard and a big reason the Chargers started the season with 24 straight wins.

Issaquah Eagles

Location: Issaquah

Record: 18-6

Coach: Jason Griffith

Key players: Ty Gibson, 6-3, Jr.,16 ppg; Trevon Ary-Turner, 6-2, Fr., 11 ppg; Jake Henke, 6-7, Sr., 10 ppg.

Inside look: The key to Issaquah’s success this season has been the players’ ability to play extremely well together. The Eagles have a strong group of guards, led by Gibson.

Beamer Titans

Location: Federal Way

Record: 21-4

Coach: Winston Bell

Key players: Bogdan Bliznyuk, 6-5, Sr., 20 ppg; Trey Burch-Manning, 6-4, Sr.,16 ppg; Charles Frazier, 6-5, Jr., 11 ppg.

Inside look: The Titans like to play fast and hard, and Bliznyuk provides them a true offensive weapon, both inside and outside.

Gonzaga Prep Bullpups

Location: Spokane

Record: 21-4

Coach: Matty McIntyre

Key players: Reed Hopkins, 6-3, Sr., 12 ppg; Sam Dowd, 5-7, Sr., 12 ppg; Ryan Alexander, 6-1, Sr., 11 ppg.

Inside look: Don’t look to push the pace, but proved in the regional round they can score quickly. The Bullpups have won 18 out of their last 19, with the lone loss coming by one point.

Wenatchee Panthers

Location: Wenatchee

Record: 16-8

Coach: Ron Stone

Key players: Drew Jeager, 6-1, Sr.; Dillon Sugg, 6-4, Sr.

Inside look: Have won seven of its last eight, including a one-point win over defending state champion Curtis in the regional round.
