Boys favorites

Rainier Beach Vikings

Location: Seattle.

Record: 26-0.

Coach: Mike Bethea.

Key players: Shaqquan Aaron, 6-8, Sr., 22 points per game; Dejounte Murray, 6-5, Jr., 18 ppg; David Crisp, 6-0, Sr., 21 ppg.

Inside look: State title would give the powerful Vikings a chance to play for a national championship.

Eastside Catholic

Location: Sammamish.

Record: 21-5.

Coach: Bill Liley.

Key players: Mandrell Worthy, 6-3, Jr., 17 ppg; Matisse Thybulle, 6-5, Jr., 12 ppg; Nathan Christie, 6-4, Sr., 9 ppg.

Inside look: Balanced Crusaders shoot the ball extremely well. They have proved they can play with anybody in the state.

Contenders

O’Dea Irish

Location: Seattle.

Record: 17-10.

Coach: Al Hairston.

Key players: Jacob Lampkin, 6-9, Sr., 12 ppg; Quin Barnard, 5-11 So., 13 ppg; Jamie Orme, 6-6, Sr., 14 ppg.

Inside look: Irish were one of the better teams in the highly competitive Metro League and are at their best when Barnard’s outside shooting opens up the interior for Lampkin and Orme.

Wilson Rams

Location: Tacoma.

Record: 22-3.

Coach: David Alwert.

Key players: David Jenkins, 6-1, So., 14 ppg; Jamal Welch, 6-4, Sr., 14 ppg; Alphonso Anderson, 6-6, So., 12 ppg.

Inside look: Young but talented Rams look to run offense through Anderson.

University Titans

Location: Spokane Valley.

Record: 15-9.

Coach: Garrick Phillips.

Key players: Michael Isotalo, 6-1, Sr., 13 ppg; Robert Little, 6-1, Jr., 12 ppg; Ben Kuiper, 6-4, Sr., 7 ppg.

Inside look: University rides a six-game win streak into its third straight state tournament, but the Titans have very few quality wins.

Bellevue Wolverines

Location: Bellevue.

Record: 22-4.

Coach: Chris O’Connor.

Key players: Kyle Foreman, 6-1, Jr., 11 ppg; Gunther Klimes, 6-5, Jr., 12 ppg; Sharif Kahn, 6-1, So., 10 ppg.

Inside look: Bellevue, with a deep bench and versatile roster, has only one in-state loss this season.

Stanwood Spartans

Location: Stanwood.

Record: 23-1.

Coach: Zach Ward.

Key players: Josh Thayer, 5-10, Sr., 16 ppg; Drew Stang, 6-8, Sr., 16 ppg; Ian Zipp, 5-11, Sr. 12 ppg.

Inside look: Spartans play well within their offensive system and don’t lean heavily on one player.

Shadle Park Highlanders

Location: Spokane.

Record: 10-13.

Coach: Tim Gaebe.

Key players: George Pilimai, 6-5, Jr., 13 ppg; Skyler Kelley, 6-0, Sr., 10 ppg.

Inside look: Highlanders needed a late comeback in the regional round to become the only team in the quarterfinals with a losing record. Shadle Park has not won more than two games in a row this season.
