BELLEVUE — The Eagles left no doubt about it — they are the best team in the Sea-King 3A District.

No. 1 Cleveland (21-2) dominated No. 7 Bellevue (18-6) in the district championship game on Saturday at Bellevue College, taking control throughout the 77-49 win.

It was the same old story for Cleveland, as everything started with its defense. The intense pressure led to turnovers, which led to fast breaks and easy buckets. When the Eagles are playing up to their potential on the defensive end, it begs the question: what can opponents do?

“I don’t know,” coach Stephanie Wheeler-Smith said with a laugh. “I don’t know. They’re just going to have to figure it out because that’s how we’re going to play.”

The Eagles played a balanced game on the offensive side, as four players reached double digits. Alexia Mefi led the attack with 16 points, while Myzhanique Ladd added 15 and Makala Roper had 14.

Both teams were already guaranteed a regional berth and will play either Friday or Saturday depending on the WIAA selection process, which will take place Sunday.
