Brandon Wellington

Eastside Catholic football

He’s just a sophomore, but Wellington made some veteran plays in the Crusaders’ 42-35 victory over third-ranked Marysville-Pilchuck. He caught a game-winning, 75-yard TD pass from Harley Kirsch with 37 seconds to play, then followed with a game-ending interception.

Kim Williams

Bellevue girls swimming

Williams was named Swimmer of the Meet in 3A after sweeping state titles in the 200 individual medley (2:00.64) and 100 breaststroke (1:02.11). Both were automatic All-American times and her mark in the IM lowered her state record.

Mercer Island volleyball team

Susan McKay’s Islanders knocked off top-ranked Southridge of Kennewick in the 3A semifinals and went on to beat surprising Holy Names in the final for the school’s first state title in volleyball. Senior Sara Lindquist earned MVP honors.
