Joshua Williamson

Mariner football

Talk about a fast start. Williamson scored the Marauders’ first five touchdowns, all on the ground, as they jumped out to a 33-7 halftime lead over Lynnwood on Friday. They then held on for a 46-36 victory — their first of the season. The senior running back finished with 282 yards on 26 carries.

Lauren Hackett

Kentwood volleyball

The senior hitter played a big role in the Conquerors’ success last week. Hackett pounded 24 kills and served up 10 aces as the Conquerors knocked off Emerald Ridge, then ranked No. 2 in the state in Class 4A. Hackett followed with 42 kills and 15 aces to help lead Kentwood to the team title in the Bearcat Invitational. “Lauren Hackett is good – very good – and getting better,” coach Bil Callier said. “You won’t find a nicer kid, a better teammate.”

Hazen boys golf

The Highlanders, coached by Teresa Caluori, overcame a big obstacle — Kennedy Catholic — to remain unbeaten, 115-106. It is believed to be their first golf victory over the Lancers since 2003. Nick Yee and David Hu scored 25 points apiece set the pace. Hazen followed with a 113-41 win over Foster to improve to 9-0.
