TACOMA — Want to get the Newport Knights to play their best basketball? Easy. Put their backs against the wall.
Newport won its sixth straight loser-out game in a Class 4A boys consolation game at the Tacoma Dome on Friday, beating Bothell 65-58. The Knights play Central Valley for fourth place at 8 a.m. Saturday.
"Maybe we just need to be in these loser-out games to be successful," Newport coach Steve Haizlip joked.
Newport (19-9) and third-ranked Bothell (21-5) played for the third time this season. The Cougars won the first two, but Newport's Will Ferris and Miles Fowler made sure it didn't happen again. Ferris scored 24, Fowler 12.
Zach LaVine scored 27 for Bothell, but missed all 10 three-point tries.
