CHEHALIS — King's advanced to the state tournament in Yakima for the first time in two years with a 57-48 boys basketball win over Kalama in the Class 1A regionals on Saturday at W.F. West High School.

Caleb Taylor had 14 points and 6-foot-2 freshman Calvin Kispert scored 13 for the Knights (19-6), who have one of the state's best postseason records in recent years.

King's has eight top-five finishes at state since 2000, including back-to-back 1A titles in 2001 and 2002.

The 1A boys and girls state tournament starts Thursday at the Yakima SunDome.

Other 1A games

Cedar Park Christian (Bothell) 74, La Center 51

At Mount Vernon, Evan Scholten scored 20 points as the Eagles (20-2) bounced back from a loss to Lynden Christian in the Tri-District tournament title game with a winner-to-state victory. Trey Drechsel and Luke Saufferer each scored 13 for Cedar Park Christian. La Center finished 17-9.

Seattle Academy 43, Kiona-Benton 27

At West Valley High in Yakima, the Cardinals held the Bears scoreless for an eight-minute stretch of the third and fourth quarters. Sophomore Ben Gerke scored 13 points and Calin Washington had 12 for Seattle Academy (21-1), which bounced back from its only defeat this season. The Cardinals had a 20-game win streak snapped in a 56-49 loss to Lynden Christian in the Tri-District tournament a week ago. Kiona-Benton finished 17-7.

Class 2B

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 65, Bear Creek 55, OT

At Mountlake Terrace, the Grizzlies from Redmond finished a victory short of the state tournament with an overtime defeat. Collin Feight scored 21 and Luke Blankenbeckler had 16 for Bear Creek, which led by five at halftime.

Class 1B

Christian Faith 75, Cedar Park Christian (Mountlake Terrace) 61

At Stanwood, Afari Richardson poured in 24 points, Segun Amosun and Vick Toor each had 16 and Ignatius Medani added 15 as the Eagles from Federal Way advanced to the state tournament in Spokane. Wilson Reidt's 20 points led Cedar Park Christian.

Sunnyside Christian 63, Evergreen Lutheran 47

At Timberline High in Lacey, Alex Brouwer scored 26 points and Sunnyside Christian pulled away in the second half to end the season for the Eagles from Des Moines. Jeffery Parker scored 18 and Andrew Goyins 15 for Evergreen Lutheran.

Tulalip Heritage 57, Tahola 37

At Timberline High School, the Hawks from Marysville earned a trip to Spokane for the state tournament with a win over Tahola.
