Mercer Island has used superior depth to build a high-school swimming dynasty, and the Islanders aren't about the change the formula now.

The Islanders won only two events, but amassed 659 points to cruise to the team title in the KingCo boys championships on Saturday at Husky Pool.

The meet brought together all the teams in the conference — 4A, 3A and 2A.

Class 4A Newport was runner-up with 517 points and 3A Bellevue was third with 508.

Karl MacLane got the Islanders' only individual win, in the 50-yard freestyle. He also swam on Mercer Island's winning 200 free relay.

Bellevue's Matt Williams won a pair of events, the 200 free (1:45.26) and 100 backstroke (52.25). The Wolverines also won the remaining two relays.

West Central 4A

At Curtis High School, Chase Bublitz won two events for Kentridge and the Chargers won two relays, but they couldn't quite catch Gig Harbor for the team crown. Gig Harbor had 294 points, Kentridge 272.5, Curtis 267 and Mount Rainier 246 to lead the team race. Bublitz swept the 100 and 200 free.

Metro League

At Helene Madison Pool, Lakeside won the coed team championship, and the Lions' boys tuned up for a run at a second consecutive state title with a dominating performance. Abrahm DeVine won the 200 individual medley and 500 free, helping Lakeside win six of 11 boys events. Grant Neil of O'Dea (50 free, 100 fly) was another double winner.
