Two matchups of high-powered girls basketball teams and six interesting boys battles are scheduled Saturday in the Les Schwab Preview at Highline Community College in Des Moines.

The Class 4A girls games feature third-ranked Lake Stevens against dangerous Kentwood at 10:30 a.m., and top-ranked Mount Rainier against No. 9 Jackson at 5 p.m.

In a showdown of top-10 boys 3A teams, second-ranked Lincoln of Tacoma plays No. 9 Mountlake Terrace at 7 p.m.

Other boys games: Evergreen (White Center) vs. Auburn Mountainview at 9 a.m., Redmond vs. Beamer at noon, Olympia vs. Ballard at 2 p.m., Issaquah vs. Columbia River at 3:30, and Mount Rainier vs. Kennedy Catholic at 8:30.

Mount Rainier's top-ranked girls are led by junior twins Brittany and Jordan McPhee, who keyed last season's run to the state semifinals. Brittany was the state's Gatorade Player of the Year.

Jackson's girls placed fourth at state last season and feature Kingma sisters Kelli, a junior who is committed to Washington, and Brooke, a sophomore.

Lake Stevens' girls are powered by senior twins Brooke and Brittney Pahukoa, who will play together at Boise State next season.

Two more South King County events are on the calendar this month: the eight-game ShoWare Shootout Dec. 22 and the 12-team Les Schwab Christmas Classic Dec. 27-29 at Kennedy Catholic.
