Taku Shiozaki

Roosevelt football

Shiozaki, a senior, carried 34 times for 203 yards and scored five touchdowns to lead the No. 10 Roughriders to a 42-28 first-round playoff victory over No. 8 Jackson. His final, 3-yard TD burst in the fourth quarter broke a 28-all tie.

Kenna Ramey

Federal Way swimming

Ramey, a junior, swam personal bests to earn a pair of titles at the 4A state meet. Her 23.44 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle was an automatic All-American time and the 56.00 in the 100 butterfly is good for All-American consideration.

Mercer Island girls swim team

Coach Chauntelle Johnson's Islanders won their fourth straight Class 3A state championship in impressive style. They broke four school records, set a state standard in the 200 free relay (1:47.75) and finished with 376 points.

Stars of the week are selected by The Seattle Times staff and published Tuesdays. Nominations may be emailed by Sunday night to sports@seattletimes.com.
