EDMONDS — Easton Kawawaki broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the 67th minute as Columbia River of Vancouver beat top-ranked Meadowdale 1-0 in the Class 3A girls soccer quarterfinals on Saturday at Edmonds Stadium.
It was the first defeat for the Mavericks (20-1), who played without standout defender Jasmine Parsley. The senior drew a red card Wednesday in Meadowdale's 2-1 shootout victory over Bainbridge in the first round.
The Mavericks nearly scored in the 71st minute, but a header off a corner kick was caught by Chieftains goalkeeper Haley Case.
In the semifinals at 2 p.m. Friday at Sparks Stadium, fourth-ranked Columbia River (17-0-2) plays Liberty, a 3-1 quarterfinal winner over Bonney Lake.
Class 4A
At Tahoma 2, Curtis 1
Taylor Clarin scored in the seventh and 59th minutes, helping top-ranked Tahoma (20-0) beat unranked Curtis to reach the semifinals. The Bears play Skyline at 6 p.m. Friday at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup. Morgan Weaver scored for Curtis.
Issaquah 2, at Central Valley 0
Rachel Wheeler gave Issaquah a quick lead with a goal in the 10th minute, and the fifth-ranked Eagles (18-2-1) rolled into the semifinals with a shutout of the No. 8 Bears (14-3). Juliana DaCruz added an insurance score in the 65th minute, and goalkeeper Tala Fry got the shutout for Issaquah. The Eagles play Camas in the semifinals at 8 p.m. Friday at Sparks Stadium.
Class 1A
University Prep 1, Seattle Academy 0
At King's School in Shoreline, Alex Wilson's goal in the 35th minute earned the Pumas (15-2-1) a state semifinal matchup with King's at 2 p.m. Friday at Shoreline Stadium. King's beat Meridian 1-0 Friday night in its quarterfinal game.
Seattle Christian 2, La Salle 1, SO
At French Field in Kent, the Warriors survived a shootout to reach the semifinals. Payton Hibbard got Seattle Christian's goal in the 47th minute.
