SHELBY, N.C. — Jimmy Sinatro drove in four runs with three doubles as the Lakeside Baseball Club of Bellevue opened the American Legion World Series on Friday with an 11-5 victory over Moline, Ill.

Mitchell Morimoto homered, Clayton Huber went 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles and Ethan Kalin and Matt Sinatro each had two hits for Bellevue.

Jacob Rosen allowed one hit in three scoreless innings in relief of winning pitcher Matt Lunde.

The Sinatro brothers played at Skyline High School of Sammamish and are the sons of Matt Sinatro, a former Mariners player and coach. Lakeside's players are from Skyline, Issaquah and Newport high schools.

On Saturday, Bellevue (37-13) plays Brooklawn, N.J., which beat Florence, S.C., 9-6.

In other Friday openers, Omaha, Neb., beat Lakewood, Calif., 8-4, and New Orleans beat Milford, Conn., 5-3 in 11 innings.

UW pair fall

in U.S. Amateur

CHERRY HILLS, Colo. — University of Washington golfers Chris Williams and Cheng-Tsung Pan lost in the quarterfinals of match play at the U.S. Amateur.

Williams lost 4 and 2 to Steven Fox of Tennessee-Chattanooga. Pan, from Taiwan, fell 4 and 3 to Cal's Brandon Hagy. The Huskies teammates would have met in the semifinals with victories.

Wednesday, Williams will learn if he is still the No. 1-ranked amateur. The top-ranked player gets an exemption for the 2013 U.S. Open and British Open.

• Coach Vicci King of Puyallup and skaters Misha Averill of Seattle and Brandon Hall of Federal Way will represent Team USA in the Speed Skating World Championships in Rome Sept. 8-15. Jillian VanDam of Marysville is a first alternate. They are training in Colorado Springs, Colo.

• Mike Watson, who coached the Lake Washington High School softball team to the state tournament last spring, died Friday morning after suffering a heart attack earlier in the week. He was 48.

• Lindsay Elston and Chelsea Archer scored goals as Washington beat Seattle University 2-0 in the women's soccer season opener for both teams.
