BELLINGHAM — Archbishop Murphy's baseball ride continues.

The Wildcats are headed to the Class 2A state semifinals for only the third time after beating Interlake 6-0 and Burlington-Edison 4-2 on Saturday at Joe Martin Stadium.

Fifth-ranked Archbishop Murphy (24-2) will face East Valley of Yakima at 4 p.m. Friday at Yakima County Stadium. Sumner plays Lynden in the other semifinal at 7.

Derrick Mahlum tossed an efficient four-hitter in a complete-game effort to beat Burlington-Edison and send the Wildcats to Yakima. In their regional opener, Levi MaVorhis struck out nine, walked none and allowed two hits in a two-hit masterpiece against Interlake. Cole Grant drove in two runs and had a pair of hits and Trever Morrison went 3 for 4 and scored twice for Archbishop Murphy.

Interlake pitcher Austin Strother deserved better. He struck out nine and allowed only three hits, but errors hurt the Saints.

It's already been a memorable season for Archbishop Murphy, which gave coach Stan Taloff his 500th career victory in April. The Everett school was in the 2A semifinals two years ago and won the 1A state title in 2004.

By beating Burlington-Edison, Archbishop Murphy also avenged one of its two losses this season. The Tigers beat the Wildcats in a district semifinal game on May 8.

B-E (17-8) reached the regional finals with a 4-3 win over North Kitsap (17-9). Interlake finished 15-11 after the shutout loss to Archbishop Murphy.

Other 2A games

Sumner 5, North Thurston 4 (winner to semifinals)

At Chehalis, Bryan Adkins tripled with out one in the top of the seventh and scored on a single by Chris Maez to put the Spartans ahead 5-3, and they barely survived a wild bottom of the inning. After North Thurston scored to make it 5-4, a Rams runner tried to score from third on a wild pitch but was tagged at the plate for the last out.

Sumner 1, Aberdeen 0 (loser out)

Logan Christensen threw a one-hitter, striking out eight with four walks, and Tysen Fischlin drove in the only run in the seventh to send Sumner to the regional final. In the other opener, sixth-ranked North Thurston eliminated Fife, 4-1.

Class 4A

Gonzaga Prep 6, Auburn Riverside 5 (loser out)

At Avista Stadium in Spokane, ninth-ranked Gonzaga Prep (20-6) rallied to tie it with three runs in the sixth and scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to knock out the unranked Ravens (17-9). Nick Minteer singled and doubled, and Chris Minteer had a triple for Riverside.

In the other opener, seventh-ranked Mead (19-6) was routed 11-0 by Richland. The fourth-ranked Bombers (21-5) then beat Gonzaga Prep (20-7) for a spot in the semifinals, 6-5.

Class 3A

Kennewick 4, Hazen 0 (loser out)

At Yakima County Stadium, Stetson Plew struck out 11 in a four-hitter as the third-ranked Lions sent unranked Hazen home. Hazen's Jimmy Schmidt, who had shut out Enumclaw with a one-hitter to clinch the Highlanders' state berth, allowed seven hits and three earned runs in a complete game.

Hazen (15-8) had a good scoring opportunity in the first when Kyle Nelson's two-out double put runners at second and third with two outs. But Jake Kolterman struck out to end the inning.

Nelson had two of Hazen's three hits.

In the other regional opener, No. 10 Mount Spokane (17-8) was demolished by ninth-ranked Kamiakin, 11-2. Kamiakin (17-9) then edged rival Kennewick (19-8) for a trip to the semifinals, 2-0.

Class 1A

Kalama 2, Cedar Park Christian (Bothell) 1 (loser out)

At Anacortes, fifth-ranked Kalama advanced to the regional final and eliminated the Eagles. Chimacum beat Ridgefield 7-4 in the other regional opener, then lost 1-0 to Kalama (17-4), which took the state semifinal berth. The 1A semifinals are Friday at Yakima County Stadium.

Class 2B

Mossyrock 2, Seattle Lutheran 0 (loser out)

At Anacortes, Seattle Lutheran was shut out in its regional opener. Adna beat La Conner 11-4 in the other opener, then lost 3-2 to Mossyrock in a game for a trip to the semifinals at Rotary Field in Ellensburg on Friday.
