WHITE CENTER — West Seattle broke a tie with three runs in the seventh inning and ended top-ranked Seattle Prep's baseball season with a 7-4 victory Friday in a loser-out game in the Metro League tournament.

Seattle Prep (20-2) came into the tournament unbeaten. But after beating Ingraham in the first round, the Panthers lost back-to-back games to Bishop Blanchet and West Seattle.

West Seattle's Sam Hellinger, Kyle Herard and Michael Wickham each went 2 for 4 against Prep, and Wickham drove in two runs. Hellinger also tossed a complete game, allowing six hits.

In another loser-out game Friday night, O'Dea rallied with two runs in the seventh inning to oust Chief Sealth, 4-3. The Irish won back-to-back state championships in 2009 and 2010.

On Saturday at Steve Cox Memorial Park, West Seattle plays O'Dea at 11 a.m. in a winner-to-state game for Metro's No. 3 spot in next weekend's Class 3A regionals. The West Seattle-O'Dea loser will be the No. 4 Metro finisher, and must beat the KingCo 3A tournament runner-up — Lake Washington, Bellevue or Liberty — next Tuesday for a trip to regionals.

The Metro League championship game is at 2 p.m. Saturday, with Eastside Catholic facing Bishop Blanchet. Both have already qualified for regionals.
