Bellevue High School football coach Butch Goncharoff is staying put.
After winning nine of the last 11 Class 3A state titles, Goncharoff decided to try to win another instead of taking a coaching job at Orange Lutheran High School in California, several sources confirmed Saturday.
Goncharoff, who was hired in 2000, said last week he wanted to go through the process and applied for the position. The job came open in January when Orange Lutheran fired Jim Kunau, who had coached the program for 19 years.
"I've never gone through the process before," Goncharoff said Tuesday. "There's nothing about Bellevue I'm displeased about. It's awesome. The community is great. The school is great. My situation is unbelievable. I just want to put myself out there, take a look at it."
The Wolverines are trying to add an out-of-state opponent for the 2012 season. They are currently talking to Euless Trinity of Texas.
