Boys Basketball | Inglemoor duo sinks Meadowdale

KENMORE — The Meadowdale High School boys basketball team found out how solid a 1-2 punch Inglemoor possesses in senior guard Steven Stone and junior forward Mark McLaughlin.

Score another knockout for the terrific twosome.

The duo combined for 51 points — Stone with 26 and McLaughlin 25 — as host Inglemoor, fifth-ranked in Class 4A, tightened up its defense in the fourth quarter to subdue Meadowdale of Lynnwood, sixth-ranked in Class 3A, 71-62 on Wednesday night in a nonleague game.

The cat-quick, 5-foot-9 Stone turned in a superb floor game on both ends, piling up 21 points in the second half. Stone also finished with nine assists and six rebounds as Inglemoor (5-3) thwarted a second-half rally from the Mavericks (4-3).

If it wasn't Stone feeding off the attention the 6-5 McLaughlin demanded, it was McLaughlin taking advantage of open space on offense.

"It's a good thing one way or another," Stone said of playing alongside one of the nation's top juniors. "If I get hot, it opens up the floor for [McLaughlin], and if he gets hot it opens things up for me."

After McLaughlin had 10 points in the first quarter and 14 in the first half, it was Stone's turn.

"We pretty much took what [Meadowdale] gave us," Inglemoor coach Greg Lowell said of his duo, which came in averaging 42.5 points with McLaughlin leading the way at 22.1.

McLaughlin, already a prized NCAA Division I recruit, chipped in eight rebounds and five assists.

Milan Moncrief led the Mavericks with 22 points and Nero Threet added 11.

Inglemoor 6-2 senior William Bush was one rebound from setting a school record, hauling down 17 boards.
