Fit & Fun

It’s a summer tradition that has been rolling along for nearly 50 years: a stretch of Lake Washington Boulevard gets closed to motorized vehicles on select Sundays. Today, June 29, is one of those days.

During each “Bicycle Sunday,” 2.5-miles south of Mount Baker Beach to the Seward Park entrance are closed to cars from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Cascade Bicycle Club has been instrumental in keeping the opportunity alive.

The next dates for car-free ambience are: July 6 and 13; Aug. 10 and 24; and Sept. 14 and 21.

Basic rules to remember: yield to pedestrians; give audible warning when passing pedestrians or other bicyclists; ride at a safe speed.
