Fit & Fun

The days are getting shorter and serious weather is on the horizon, so time to check out some indoor fitness. For cheap options, look no further than your local community gym.

What can you do there?

Basketball. Pickleball. Juggling. Badminton. Aerobics. Table tennis. Volleyball. Indoor soccer. Maybe even a game of tag if you’re so inclined.

Carl Bergquist, recreation center coordinator for the Rainier Community Center, reminds people that availability is subject to change for special events and other reasons, so it is always wise to call ahead.

The cost for adults is $3 and $2 for seniors. There is no charge for people younger than 18 with photo ID.

For an overall view, look around at seattle.gov/parks/centers.asp

But that’s just Seattle. Communities around the region offer cheap, warm and dry open gyms. Check out the one near you.
